mornings like these

at this time of year, it’s common to find fog wrapping its cool blanket around the islands in the hauraki gulf. it disrupts our commute and makes the trip longer, but it’s beautiful to witness. i make time to lift my head from my book and wander around on the upper deck of the ferry, scarf pulled tightly around my neck and my jacket pulled close to trap as much heat in my body as it can. i am grateful for this interlude between leaving and arriving… this temporary and quiet time, moments in which i get the opporunity to trust that what can’t be seen is as real as what can be.
