making our simple & seasonal menu for this week, all the while nostalgic for london. i have fond memories of two small eating places…

one // ducksoup, soho. i visited there for dinner with my friend jeanine. the food was exquisite – an eclectic selection of dishes with a menu changing based on the seasons. every small dish a perfect combination of flavours and textures. so good i bought their cookbook & this is what i pull from the shelf to make this week’s meal plan.

  • Turmeric chickpeas, kale, garlic yoghurt & burnt lemon
  • Shaved fennel, broad beans, peas, dill & salted ricotta
  • Spring vegetable fritters, cucumber yoghurt and curry leaves
  • Angel hair pasta, sage, rosemary and parmesan
  • Blueberry drinking vinegar soda

two // towpath café, regent’s canal. wandering the canals was a favourite pastime in london when we lived there and i visited it again when we were back in the uk in may 2014. there’s no menu, no takeaways, no website, no phone number, it’s the kind of place you either stumble upon – a happy accident like i did the first time – or turn into a destination, returning again and again. entertainment is provided by the birdlife on the canals and by pedestrians and bicycles passing by. a hidden gem in haggerston for the pleasure of a simple meal.
