Small spider web (c) Leonie Wise Small spider web on washing line (c) Leonie Wise

From other
angles the
fibers look
fragile, but
not from the
spider’s, always
hauling coarse
ropes, hitching
lines to the
best posts
possible. It’s
heavy work
fighting sag,
winching up
give. It
isn’t ever
to live.

i pause to consider this when hanging out the laundry today – my lines chosen so as not to interfere with the coarse ropes the tiny occupant would have had to haul and winch in order to claim their space

  • “Yes, good thinking. I must do that myself when I rush out the door through the gate and get caught in one of those course ropes too”
